The Hundredth Angel

This piece was inspired by a Ken Keyes essay called "The Hundredth Monkey"
( to understand this piece, read the story of The 100th monkey )

There are 98 little cherub angels on this wall piece .......
the large angel at the edge of the mirror makes 99 angels, in all.......
If you look into the mirror you will be the 100th Angel.....that very one that allows the universe to shift.
Can you see me looking into the mirror?
Now it's your turn to claim your power and announce yourself as the 100th Angel.

today's hike in the Ko'olau Mountains

My friend, Mo'a Romig Boyles

My dear friend, and wonderful artist, Mo'a, has been so kind to share my art on her blog.

I love this generosity of spirit and support that seems to be inherent in the blogging community.
As friends sharing a cup of coffee and saying...Have you seen this?.....
We sit in our own private space, but share never-the-less, what we love and what inspires us, with others.

I love Mo'a pieces...they have real charm and aliveness to them. They sparkle, as Mo'a herself sparkles. She is very beautiful, inside and out. And I have been fortunate to be with her for 2 retreats, and so now she is like family. My icelandic sister.

Take a moment to visit her site. Her artistic expression is broad, but you will find that special Mo'a charm in each and every piece. http://moaromigboyles.typepad.com

I give you Sunflowers!

I feel the need to say something about this historic and inspiring new day......but words seem trite.

And so I send you SUNFLOWERS! Aren't they amazing!
They stand tall and proud, as we as Americans are standing... with bright and hopeful faces turned towards the Light.

Wonderful Wire Whimsies...

When I was in Paris this summer, I saw some really fun wire hanging wire sculptures of ladies, in one little cafe.
I couldn't wait to experiment with this technique.
I love that the black wire takes on a look of a black pen and ink sketch....a doodle, almost....which adds to the light hearted whimsey of the piece.

A little wire whimsy "wabbit" was born of that inspiration, and I have just put together an online class to share how to create this fun piece. You can check it out at That Creative Place.

It took a while to figure out what was the best wire to use, and how to make this work, but I love the results.

On one of them I used old French music sheets for the costume, and I've used old journal pages too, but you could use anything. They are quite addictive!

I just finished making a little dog...in a tutu. It turned out really cute, but I can't get it to show up well in a photo.
These aren't easy to photograph.

Now I have them hanging all over my house.
My husband isn't so pleased because he keeps running into them, since they hang from all the ceiling fans.
Oh La La!

I voted!

Yesterday we drove an hour around the island to go to the early voting place, to cast our ballots in this emotional election.
As you can see from these photos, the journey was, in itself, inspiring. What a place this island is!

But more than that....I was really excited to vote. I was almost giddy! Like I was going to a party. :)
To feel that way, particularly in regards to an election, is something that has been seriously missing for years and years, in my life.

I think I must have started out enthusiastic with my first voting experience, but then as I got older, and time went on, my enthusiasm waned and I fell deeply into apathy, as nothing and no one seemed to make any difference. Until this election.

I am hopeful that Barrack Obama gets elected. I don't know much about politics, and who knows what he will be able to actually do in office, but the one thing that I get from him is Hope...Hope that we may find our way out of this mess that we are now in.

I watch him stand...speak....talk with Americans and I see a man with a quality of Grace.
I read a statement from his wife that said something to the effect that one needs to understand Hawaii to really understand Obama. I deeply understand that statement. There is something graceful and gracious in the people of this island.
Perhaps it's the force of nature that is so strong here....maybe it's the tradewinds that soften the edge...but it is true that Hawaii leaves her imprint. I see it on Barrack Obama. I am hopeful.
