Living in the moments of friendship....

In the midst of living life...trying to create order out of chaos ...a day comes along that is perfect in it's rhythm and in it's heart......
A gentle roll into living in the moments that great friendships weave together.....

Knowing that we are leaving for two months, we enjoyed a day with good friends.
The kind of friends that have grown older with us....friends that make up memories of laughter and special moments. We talked and laughed of old times....and as we did so, we wove new memories....
This was a perfect day.

We began with coffee......and sweets......

Even with drizzles and dark clouds gathering, some crazy folks ( like us ) just can't pass up a flea market! Found a few treasures.....

Off to THE BEST CLAM CHOWDER EVER!!
Too rainy to sit outside so we piled back into the car....
and it tasted even better as our hands warmed up and our tummys got full.

A foggy day in Bodega..... little fishing boats safely anchored in the bay.....
my son-in-law out catching crab on his boat, the Bella Bleu.....yum!
Fresh crab tomorrow!

Perfect foggy and rainy weather as we find our way inside to a cozy fireplace....
and hot coffee with baileys irish creme....

A perfect day and a perfect way to say....see you in a couple of months...
We will miss you.....Wish you were coming with us....

Enjoying new blossoms, good friends and old artwork....

Being away for a while does bring it's rewards....like the gift of reuniting with good friends.
And when I'm over at a good friend's house it also means I get to look again at little pieces of art work that I've given as gifts.

It's always a good feeling and a bit of a relief to see something that I made, years ago, and actually be charmed by it. The emotional process of creating art is...at least for me.... such a roller coaster ride.
I was sharing this online today at That Creative Place, where I teach classes.

A woman, new to sculpting, was taking my class in learning to sculpt a face and I wanted to make sure she knew that it is a process....a process where it is necessary to be kind to yourself. Everytime I create something I seem to journey along the same path...and even though I know the twists and turns of this path, I still fall into the emotion of it. I wanted to prepare her a bit for this possibility.

When I'm creating, it is like falling in love. I am so in love with what I am making that I am sure it is the best thing I've ever done.
I'm sure it is worth millions of dollars.
Then.....a couple of days after I have completed the piece, I see everything wrong with it.
I am embarrassed for anyone to see it. I am sure it should be thrown out!

Fortunately, within a month's time, my emotions level out and I can see the piece for what it is, and appreciate the good points, and learn from the places that don't work as well.

And then there comes the time when I haven't seen a piece of my artwork for months or years....
and when I see it, I am happy.
Today was one of those days. :)

The glow of 45 years of friendship....

My beau ( yes, after 41 years of marriage, he is still my beau ) joined us last night.....and yes...my friends loved the ornaments that I created for them. We had a lovely evening. Life is good.

Creating with bits of my heart.....

Some of my most favorite treasures came together today, creating two ornaments to gift to two dear friends....bits of my heart I gift to them. We have been friends for so long.

two egg gourds...words torn from an 1882 handwritten French journal... crackle glaze... rhinestones... brass bird findings... vintage religious medallions.... antique keys.... wire leaves.... antique beaded trim.... gold metallic lace.... and black ribbon with tiny white dots....

Voila!!

The New Religion

A friend sent this to me this morning and I loved reading it!
And now I send it out to you.....across the oceans of the world.....

The New Religion of the 21st Century

On the surface of the world right now there is war and violence
and things seem dark
But calmly and quietly, at the same time, something
else is happening underground
An inner revolution is taking place and certain individuals
are being called to a higher light
It is a silent revolution
From the inside out
From the ground up

It is time for me to reveal myself
I am an embedded agent of a secret, undercover
Clandestine Global operation
A spiritual conspiracy
We have sleeper cells in every nation on the planet

You won't see us on the T.V.
You won't read about us in the newspaper
You won't hear about us on the radio

We don't seek any glory
We don't wear any uniform
We come in all shapes and sizes
Colors and styles

Most of us work anonymously
We are quietly working behind the scenes in every country
and culture of the world
Cities big and small, mountains and valleys, in farms and villages,
tribes and remote islands

You could pass by one of us on the street and not even notice
We go undercover
We remain behind the scenes
It is of no concern to us who takes the final credit
But simply that the work gets done

Occasionally we spot each other in the street
We give a quiet nod and continue on our way so no one will notice

During the day many of us pretend we have normal jobs
But behind the false storefront at night is where the real work takes place

Some call us the 'Conscious Army'
We are slowly creating a new world with the power of our minds and hearts
We follow, with passion and joy
Our orders from the Central Command
The Spiritual Intelligence Agency

We are dropping soft, secret love bombs when no one is looking
Poems
Hugs
Music
Photography
Movies
Kind words
Smiles
Meditation and prayer
Dance
Social activism
Websites
Blogs
Random acts of kindness

We each express ourselves in our own unique ways
with our own unique gifts and talents

'Be the change you want to see in the world'
That is the motto that fills our hearts
We know it is the only way real transformation takes place
We know that quietly and humbly we have the power
of all the oceans combined

Our work is slow and meticulous
Like the formation of mountains
It is not even visible at first glance
And yet with it entire tectonic plates shall be moved in the centuries to come

Love is the new religion of the 21st century

You don't have to be a highly educated person
Or have any exceptional knowledge to understand it

It comes from the intelligence of the heart
Embedded in the timeless evolutionary pulse of all human beings

Be the change you want to see in the world
Nobody else can do it for you

We are now recruiting
Perhaps you will join us
Or already have....
All are welcome...
The door is open
