The Masai Mara

Driving on our way to the Masai Mara, there would be vast stretches of open countryside and then there would be a spot of red or purple....it was a Masai warrior, draped in his cloth, carrying his walking stick ( and club and knife ).
It was thrilling to see this lone figure, walking and tending a herd of cattle or goats.

Soon we approached the Masai Mara National Reserve where we would experience our Safari.

The first sighting was of a Wildebest.
From the vast Serengeti plains to the champagne colored hills of Kenya’s Masai Mara over 1.4 million wildebeest and 200,000 zebra and gazelle, relentlessly tracked by Africa’s great predators, migrate in a clockwise fashion over 1,800 miles each year in search of rain ripened grass.

Here is our safari van, with a pop up roof.

A beautiful lioness...

and many giraffes.

This guy wanted to offer me a kiss.......pucker up!

and elephants....

and more wildebeasts....

and ups and downs, ins and outs of the road....

and lots of Zebra....

These nests are so cool! They are made by the Weaver bird and they weave their nests in colonies.

Tomorrow's post...... I meet a Masai warrior.......
