Pandora and the Seven Sins....new online class!

Meet Pandora!  And meet her Seven Sins!
This really fun, really big class has just been opened at That Creative Place, online school.
In this class you will learn how to sculpt and paint Pandora and each of her Seven Sins.  It is really fun to capture the expressions of Gluttony, Pride, Anger, Lust, Greed, Envy and Sloth.
You will also learn to use a gourd as Pandora's body and the container for the Sins. And how to use a lazy susan as a display turntable.

The Sins can sit on the rim of the turn table, or you can place them within her body.....and then reach in and choose your sin for the day!  In this one class, you will learn about apoxie sculpt, collage, painting and sculpting technique, application of fabric, crackle glaze, and embellishments.
And of course, once the Sins have been removed, Hope remains.  Do you see her there?

Here are the pile of Sins...funny little creatures, sure to make you laugh!  Come join me for this really fun class and create for yourself, a masterpiece.  The class is structured to allow you to go at your own speed, to join the group or just to follow the detailed instructions and photos on your own.  For more information, go here: That Creative Place

Tea and inspiration....

Yesterday I was invited for tea at Carol Whatanabe's studio.

Carol is a woman who leads an inspired life and because of that, she is so interesting and fun to be with.  We connect on a level that has nothing to do with time spent together.  It is more a recognition of spirit and the play that life can be.
How could you not love strawberry shortcake with whip cream at 11 AM!
Her art speaks her spirit.  Loud, joyful and full of life.
I loved her freehand painted checkerboard floor.

Be sure to take a look at her website and check out her houses in France and Mexico.
I found her book so inspiring that I bought copies for all of my friends.  This is a woman who talks the talk and walks the walk of an artist, not just in her art, but in her life.

New online classes!

I am excited to announce that I will be offering a new series of online classes, beginning in July at the "A is for Artistic site".

Each class is offered individually or ...at a savings...as a series. The classes begin with my technique of sculpting and painting a head and face. Each class of the series has about 4 to 6 lessons with full instruction and colored photos, showing each and every step, and in every class there is an online forum where we can talk...critic if you want....share tips...share photos and just get to know each other.

The next class will be on to sculpting and painting the hands and arms, then on to sculpting and painting the legs and feet. The next class will show you how I create a torso, how I attach the previously sculpted arms and legs and how to make a stand. The whole series then culminates with the class on Creating a Hardscape. When I moved to Hawaii I found, because of the heat and humidity, velvets and antique laces did not work so well.

From walking the beaches and discovering sea glass, and found objects, to incorporating abalone shards and mosaic class, I developed a costume that I call a Hardscape.
This is the way I created the piece that I have been posting about here on my blog...
"My Lady of Guadalupe".
So the last class will be on how to create her costume!

I'm excited about these classes and I do think taking classes online is a brilliant idea!
I know I have taken many classes from felting to jewelry making, and I very much enjoy being able to create my own studio, at my own time, and yet learn something new.

I hope I see you in class..... in cyberspace......creating, creating, creating! :)

New Online class site!

I'm very very happy to announce that my online class in creating a "Maryhoonie" has just opened up on a beautiful new teaching site called: A is for Artistic

http://www.aforartistic.com/maryhoonie.html

Have you ever participated in an online class?

I've been teaching online for several years now and I am
continually amazed at how fun and easy it is.
And how connected I feel to those taking the class.

The class is made up of 4 lessons and will run for 4 weeks, with a new lesson each week.
The first class will begin on March 22nd.

There is an online forum for any questions you might have.
Each class is full of written instruction and detailed photographs, so in the comfort of your own home, at your own pace, you can create away....using techniques that I have developed over my 35 year career. And if you have any question or wish to share, I'm here to guide you and I'm just an email away.
And...I love email! :)

And it's fun! It's so inspiring for me to chat with people all over the world as we sculpt together.
Ideas bounce back and forth and the wings of inspiration connects us all. I love that the internet has made our world into a community...a neighborhood.

Maryhoonies have been a real joy for me to create. They are funny little creatures that make me smile! If you click on this link, you can read about how I came to first create these little guys.
Once you begin, you will find all sorts of subtle little adaptations that will create new forms of Maryhoonies and soon you will have a village, as I do. :)

Come join me for lots of fun! The more the merrier!!
I can't wait to see what you create!
We all need something to make us smile, don't ya think? :)
If you do decide to take this class, please let me know........I just feel a sort of bond with those of you that read my blog and I'd love to know that you will be joining me.
I'm really quite excited!

The energy is building......

The energy is beginning to build for my online class on Pandora and the Seven Sins.

I love this part....the anticipation....the gathering of supplies...the free flying of vision and inspiration before the creating begins.

We have a great forum set up, online, where participants post photos and/or ask questions and I...or anyone in the class...can respond.
So far there's been a discussion between New Zealand, California and England.
Isn't that just amazing!.....it's like we have entered a magical world where one gains access through one's fingertips, on the transportation of the internet....a world where time and space have lost their meaning.    A world where we are friends and neighbors, even though we are physically so far apart.  We are connected by the love of creating and a vision that moves us.

And I've just packed up Pandora and her Seven Sins to ship her off to the magazine, Art Doll Quarterly to photograph for an article on the creating of her, and what online teaching is like.
So this is a special class that will also be written up in a great magazine.

The class begins on September 20th, so there's still plenty of time to sign up if you are interested.   The more, the merrier.....as the saying goes!
