My shadow found me......

Today my shadow found me working on my mushroom. It had been cold and grey, but I bundled up and went out to apply some more glass....... and out popped the sun!
It glittered and glistened on my glass and I am in love with the way this mushroom is turning out! The lumps and bumps that are caused by the underlying oyster shells and cement add a wonderful movement to the surface.
But I am all too familiar with this stage of falling in love with a project. It happens most of the time. I begin a piece of art work and I can literally feel the moment and the sensation of tumbling into love. It becomes the best piece I've ever done! I'm sure it's worth a million dollars!
And then......then I complete it....... and I hate it.
And then after a couple of days my eyes can see the truth of the piece and most often I like it a lot but I am well aware of it's value. LOL
So with my mushroom, after being very frustrated with my attempts, I am happy to report that I am in love. However, this mosaic of glass is to be grouted....which can change....and will change the whole affect.
But that's part of the fun of creating.
Balancing on the edge of love and hate. :)

Do you ever feel that way about a creation?

I know about the love-hate relationship of creation all to well. But in the end it's all worth the struggles. Your mushrooms is looking already very interesting!

Oh my, do I ever...? YEAH, every single time! Well, there is one or two or even three pieces I still love, and most of them i have "grown" to like after hating them for some time... But yeah, I guess it is something that just happens. It is love of the process in itself, and the realization of one's imperfections after finishing it.

But it would be sad if one day I would create something I love so much I would never crave creating for something even better?

I feel that way almost every time, I am half way through one of my story pendants, I think, this is aweful how will it ever look right! Then somehow everything seems to fit in and I can end up quite liking the piece or loving it and not wanting to part with it lol. Often it doesn't happen all at once though, I like to study each piece before I let it go.

Yeah, I know that roller coaster of feelings. That's part of the rush of creating. What I dread is feeling apathetic toward my work. Which is kind of where I am right now. Think I go lose myself in a good book for a while.

Aloha Marilyn! :)
Yes the yin and yang create a maddening distraction of elation and frustration! Your mushroom is *magical* however! I *love* it! Just LOVE it!

Hi Marilyn, I'm in the "hate it" stage right this very minute with a piece of furniture I'm painting. Grrrr! So I'm giving it a rest and visiting your blog for something enjoyable to do. I'll be back to see how your mushroom turns out. Huggs... Rose

I am in love with your mushroom! But I certainly know how a piece can be the bane of your existence. I try to live with it a while to see if I can be re-inspired... if my muse absolutely wants to stay curled up in the corner with her thumb in her mouth, stamping her little feet in a terrible two sort of way... I eventually will give in and send the project file 13, shrug off the defeat, pull up my big girl panties and begin something new.

You said it, girl. We all feel that way but we think we're the only one who falls in love and then falls in hate. There's a thin line between the two, they say. Your work is beautiful!

Well not only could I relate to the yin/yang of creating...but I may have to steal a part of your idea with the serious grouping of glass here...what a beauty! There's nothing to hate about this..don't worry, it's just something for me that I want to work on...I'll probably hate it...haha June
