"Deep Within"

http://www.marilynradzat.com/galleryI.html
                                                “Deep Within” by Marilyn Radzat

This was such a interesting piece to create because it just came together on it's own, telling me where to put the next stroke of paint and piece of glass.  I first painted the lady on canvas and then cut that out and mounted it on wood.  More paint was then added to the wood, both on the middle piece and on each of two side pieces.
It has a 3 dimensional feel because of the tempered glass that I used and because of the bird skull used as part of her head dress.
This piece of art has a kind of "ancient" feel because of the crackle glazing that I did and because of depth that the tempered glass adds.  I love this piece...I hope you do too! :)

Painting Painting Painting !!!

I have found that I love to paint...after 40 some years of sculpting, I find it's thrilling to be experimenting with new techniques...it's freeing...it's challenging...it's evident when I'm in my head...and it feels great when I'm not.  I've been painting now for about 4 years and I feel I'm ready to offer some pieces that I love, for sale...
so I'll post them here and on Instagram and see if these paintings can find their new home.

A faerie tale pony...

We moved onto a beautiful property this summer that we share with 2 of our three daughters and their families.  A family compound.  The girls have horses and yesterday our 13 yr old granddaughter and the little miniature horse had some fun. :)

Close ups of new painting...."Blessings"

Well...I haven't been so good in posting....the days fly by and I see that I am out of the habit of checking in.  I apologize.
Here are close-ups of my lastest painting. "Blessings".  Now I will pack it up and ship it to The Chalk Farm Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
There are 3 separate panels.
Each panel is 36” tall x 24”….so the total size is 6’ by 3’.
I'm really happy with this piece....the textures, the colors, the use of glass.
Now to create a new piece.  Oh boy!

The next step for my Triptych ....applying tempered glass and then adding grout to that.  I love the way that it deepens the colors and adds more mystery.
After curing for at least 24 hours, I will add a sealer and then apply finishing touches....Stay tuned. :)
Here is a photo of "before" the glass and grout....

Painting.....

It's been so long since I wrote on my blog, that I've forgotten how much I enjoy sharing my work and my thoughts!

Lately, I had been asked to share photos of my art work on my Face Book page, and so over the last 10 days I've been looking back over all the years...and enjoying  the different stages and the progress of my work, with the perspective of time.  I feel so much gratitude that I found the medium of clay all those years ago.

Over the past couple of years, I've begun to dabble in painting.  I really like that I don't know how to paint, and that there is a new learning curve for me.
It's frustrating, but challenging.... and I had been missing that in my doll art.
And now I have fallen in love with painting.

I took an online class from Flora Bowley and I learned so much, particularly about building up interesting background layers.
I love online classes.  I love that I can gather tips and methodology from painters who have developed a style that I respond to, and then I can take what they share and interpret it in my own way.  When I began in the art doll world, there were no classes, no sharing on Facebook or on the internet, so it took many many years of trial and error to formulate and find products and methods that worked for me.
In one way, that was a blessing because I developed my own style and enjoyed the challenge of learning  over the many years.  However, now that I am older, and time is more precious..... and I have this strong desire to paint.....I so appreciate those that will share what works so that I can jump start my painting journey.  Flora Bowley's class is such a gift.  Her style is interesting, and her method for building up interesting layers of background is fun and easy to learn..... and then allows me to go wherever I wish with my own style.  If you've ever wanted to paint and didn't know where to begin, I highly recommend taking her course.
And if you do...let me know what you think.

Here are some paintings I've done recently.  I'll post my new work in progresses here on my blog.

It's good to be back chatting with you, here on my blog.  I've missed this sharing...... :) Let me know what you've been up to.
xoxo
Marilyn :)
